On October 9, a total of 90 Myanmar nationals—81 men and 9 women—were repatriated from the Immigration Detention Center (IDC) in Ranong, Thailand, to Kawthaung, Tanintharyi Region, by sea.
The group had been detained for violating various laws in Thailand. The repatriation process was coordinated by U Moe Zaw, the Labor Attaché based in Ranong, and the returnees were received in Kawthaung by U Naing Lin Htet, Chairman of the Township Management and Administration Committee, along with other officials.
Upon arrival, health workers conducted medical screenings for COVID-19 and other infectious diseases. Authorities also verified personal information, checked for blacklisted individuals, wanted persons, victims of human trafficking, and fugitives before arranging for the returnees to be sent to their respective hometowns.
