48-ton cars allowed to pass on newly-built bridges: Construction Ministry

As all bridges including Goktwin Bridge were repaired, authorities will allow 48-ton cars passing through on newly-built bridges starting on September 8th, Deputy Minister Kyaw Lin of the Ministry of Construction told the media during the break time of parliament meeting held in Nay Pyi Taw on September 4th .

“We already allowed 36-ton cars passing across on reconstructed bridges. 48 tons cars will be allowed on August 8th. All bridges were reconstructed. So, vehicles can move onto Mandalay, Lashio and Muse Townships. Likewise, the bridges on Kwanlon road were renovated,” said Deputy Minister Kyaw Lin.

On August 15th, the AA, the MNDAA and the TNLA carried out synchronized attacks on Defence Services Technological Academy (DSTA), Pyin-Oo-Lwin toll gate, Goktwin police outpost in Naungcho Township, Naungcho toll gate, a drug inspection gate and a military battalion (headquarters). Nine servicemen, three police members and two civilians were killed as well as buildings, vehicles and machines including Goattwin Bridge were damaged in the attacks.

During the regular meeting of the Lower House held in Nay Pyi Taw on August 16th, the MP from Kengtung Constituency submitted the proposal of condolence for the victims who were killed in the attacks, also strongly denouncing the attacks.

The parliament had recorded his condolence proposal.

Likewise, Zwe Htay, Spokesperson of the President Office said at a press conference on August 16th: “ The attacks in Pyin-Oo-Lwin and Naungcho are terrorist acts and hamper the government’s peace process. The government still opens the peace door.”

The armed groups of Northern Alliance Army also attacked some vehicles from Civic and Social Organizations which rescued the injured victims during the attacks.
