From January to May this year, a total of 31 police members and 20 innocent civilians were killed due to attacks from Arakan Army (AA), according to the statement by the State Counsellor Office.

The  State Counsellor Office held a press conference on the undertakings of the government’s third-year term in office, at the Information Ministry in Nay Pyi Taw on May 31.

“There were 206 clashes in total. Nearly 100 AA members were killed and 48 others caught alive. We continue to investigate them in accordance with the laws,” said Zaw Htay, Director-General of the State Counsellor's Office .

From January 1 to May 27, this year, 31 police members were killed, 32 others injured and six, missing. In addition, 20 innocent civilians were killed and 43 others injured, according to the statement.

“The government has opened the Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps in seven townships in Rakhine State and in Paletwa in Chin State. The total number of IDPs has exceeded 33,000.”

There are 108 relief camps in total, he added.

The IDP camps are located in MraukU, Buthidaung, Yathaedaung, Kyauktaw, Minbya, Ponnagyun and Pauktaw Townships in Rakhine State and Paletwa Township in Chin State. More than 33,031 people are taking shelter at 108 IDP camps.

Zaw Htay denied the rumour that the government is compiling the list of Rakhine ethnics. The government has no policy to do like so. The government will take action against those who do it. There is no discrimination against Rakhine ethnics.

Sometimes there are the leakages of news among security members. Some people leak classified news. It is related to the individual. The security organizations expose the leakages of news and take action against those involved in the cases. Likewise, the governmental departments do the same when there are the leakages of classified documents. The departments take action against them in conformity with relevant rules and regulations. It is nothing to do with other cases, Zaw Htay continued.
