296 H1N1 cases confirmed with 59 deaths till July 17

Till July 17, there were 707 H1N1 suspects with 296 confirmed infections and 59 deaths across Myanmar, according to data from the Ministry of Health and Sports.

Yangon Region saw three more deaths from Thingangyun, Hlegu and Htaukkyant townships respectively.

From January to July 17, of 206 influenza-like illness-ILI cases, there were 34 A (H1N1) cases, 12 A (H3N2) cases and eight influenza B cases. Of 504 severe acute respiratory infection-SARI cases, there were 226 A (H1N1) cases, 10 A (H3N2) cases and nine influenza B cases.

"Out of 707 people across the country who underwent lab tests, there were 296 confirmed cases and 59 deaths. There were three more deaths in Thingangyun, Hlegu and Htaukkyant townships of Yangon Region. Out of 370 people in Yangon Region who underwent lab tests, there were 169 confirmed cases and 46 deaths. Yangon is still a region that has seen most of deaths," said an official from the Ministry of Health and Sports.

  1. Ministry of Health and Sports announced that most deaths occurred among elderly people, very young people and those suffering from diabetes, hypertension, heart attack, respiratory diseases or other chronic diseases.

Currently, H1N1 monitoring tasks are being carried out at 15 region or state level hospitals including hospitals in North Oakkalapa, Insein and Hlinethaya of Yangon Region.

Health authorities are now speeding up monitoring process across the country including hospitals, clinics and border points of entry.
