A total of 20 million COVID-19 vaccines will be arrived in September and October, according to the Ministry of Health.

"The ministry informed the public in a coordination meeting regarding COVID-19 that the 20 million vaccines will be arrived in September and October. In addition, two million vaccines purchased from Russia will arrive this month,” said an official from the ministry.

Of the 24 million Sinopharm vaccines purchased from the China, four million of them arrived at Yangon International Airport on September 12, according to the ministry.

Myanmar currently has 6.5 million Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccines: 2.5 million donated by China, two million Sinovac COVID-19 vaccines purchased from China and two million more Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccines purchased from China. As of September 11, 3.24 million people have received two full doses of the vaccine.

Vaccination will be completed 20 per cent of the people by the end of this month and 50 per cent by the end of this year. About 70 percent will be completed by mid-2022, according to the ministry.

As of early September, more than 625 million people (over 30 per cent) had been fully vaccinated with the COVID-19 vaccine in Southeast Asia region set by the World Health Organization (WHO), according to a report from the WHO.

The ministry is providing COVID-19 vaccines to targeted groups in states and regions.
