Plans are underway to install payment card system in 1,500 YBS (Yangon Bus Service) buses this month, Yangon Region Transport Authority Joint Secretary Hla Aung told the media on November 6.

The installation period will be 18 days.

"Machinery has arrived. Installation and cooperation among the companies under YBS have started. We will complete the installation within 18 days," Hla Aung said.

Payment card (YPS) machines will be installed in 500 buses of Yangon Urban Public Transport Company, 300 buses of Maha Bandoola Company and 80 buses of Shwe Taungbaing Company.

Since November 1, discussion has been underway among Asia Starmar Company permitted to run YPS machines, YBS companies and YRTA to install machines in those buses.

Yangon city has 100 bus lines in YBS system with 6,635 registered buses. Over 4,500 buses transport about 1.8 million passengers daily.
