BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN (Borneo Bulletin/ANN) - The royal procession through the thoroughfares of Bandar Seri Begawan was the crowning event of the Golden Jubilee Celebration of Brunei's Sultan accession to the throne.

The Royal Procession through the thoroughfares of Bandar Seri Begawan was the crowning event of the Golden Jubilee Celebration of His Majesty’s Accession to the Throne.

The crowds, made up of thousands of His Majesty’s adored subjects and residents of other nationalities from the region and beyond, were seen gathering in the capital since early in the morning, braving the scorching sun to witness and be part of the historic occasion.

A total of 50 selected personnel demonstrated their loyalty and love for their ruler, pushing and pulling the gilded Royal Chariot in which His Majesty and Her Majesty Duli Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha binti Al-Marhum Pengiran Pemancha Pengiran Anak Haji Mohamed Alam were sat in.

Also seated onboard the Royal Chariot were His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office; His Royal Highness Prince Haji ‘Abdul ‘Azim; His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Malik; His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Mateen; His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Wakeel; and Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Rashidah Sa’adatul Bolkiah.

Also accompanying the royal entourage were Her Royal Highness Paduka Seri Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Anak Sarah binti Pengiran Haji Salleh Ab Rahaman; Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Raabi’atul ‘Adawiyyah binti Pengiran Haji Bolkiah; His Royal Highness Prince Mohamed Bolkiah and Her Royal Highness Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Zariah; His Royal Highness Prince Haji Sufri Bolkiah and Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Bini Hajah Faizah binti Dato Haji Nasir; His Royal Highness Prince Haji Jefri Bolkiah and Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Norhayati binti Pengiran Jaya Negara Pengiran Haji Abdul Rahman; Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Majeedah Nuurul Bolkiah; Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Hafizah Sururul Bolkiah; Her Royal Highness Princess ‘Azemah Ni’matul Bolkiah; Her Royal Highness Princess Fadzilah Lubabul Bolkiah; Her Royal Highness Princess Ameerah Wardatul Bolkiah; Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Masna, Ambassador-at-Large at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade; Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Nor’ain; Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Amal Umi Kalthum Al-Islam; Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Amal Rakiah; Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Amal Nasibah; and Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Amal Jefriah.

Leading the Royal Procession was the Grand Chamberlain followed by marching bands from the Royal Brunei Armed Forces and Royal Brunei Police Force.

Following closely behind was a special customised vehicle carrying a Changkah (huge two-pronged spear) and guarded by a Pateh and Damong, as well as 40 bearers of Sinipit (decorated spears) and Taming (decorated shields).

Walking ahead of the Royal Chariot were two Panglimas (decorated army officers): the Panglima Raja who carried a Pemuras (a large gun), and the Panglima Asgar who carried a Kalasak (shield) and a Kampilan (dagger). There were also 16 bearers of Pedang (swords) and Perisai (shields) as well as 16 bearers of the Tombok Benderangan (gold-plated spears). Also part of the Royal Procession was the Gendang Arak-Arakan, a vehicle which carried an ensemble of royal musical instruments.

Befitting ancient customs and traditions, the Royal Procession is testimony to the country’s longstanding monarchical system that has existed for hundreds of years, providing all Bruneians - especially the young generation – the opportunity to understand and appreciate the nation’s rich traditions and history.

It was an occasion for the people to come together to reflect upon the country’s development and achievements over the past decades, and an impetus for further future progress. Just as importantly, it represented an opportune time for the people to express their love, respect and appreciation to His Majesty for his leadership and contri-butions in upholding peace, prosperity and progress for the country.
