In 2014, a record number of tourists visited Kyite Htee Yoe Cultural Zone, the site of Golden Rock, according to the data from the Mon State Development Group, which collects entrance fees for the tourist attraction.
In November 2014, 14,876 tourists visited Kyite Htee Yoe Cultural Zone and paid an all-time high of US$89,256 in entrance fees. In December, 14,425 tourists visited and paid $86,550 in entrance fees, according to Tin Win Kyaw, an officer in Kyite Htee Yoe Mountain’s entrance fee collecting office for foreigners.
“Since the Mon State Development Group started collecting entrance fees, tourism rose sharply, mainly from Thailand. Other tourists come from East Asia, Europe, and the US. The collected entrance fees are used for the Mon State Development Fund,” said Tin Win Kyaw.
Between November 1, 2013, and January 6, 2015, 145,348 tourists visited Kyite Htee Yoe Cultural Zone, contributing a total of $872,088 in entrance fees.
