Over 2 M tourists enter Myanmar in 2014-15 fiscal year

Over two million foreign tourists visited Myanmar before December this fiscal year, and most of them arrived via border gates, sources from the Ministry of Hotels and Tourism say.

Statics from the ministry indicated that over one million visitors arrived in Myanmar in the 2012-13 fiscal year, over two million visitors entered Myanmar in the and in 2013-14 fiscal year.

Foreign tourists visited Myanmar via sea ports, air ports and border gates during the 2014-15 fiscal year. Over 700,000 tourists visited Myanmar via air ports. Over 100,000 tourists entered Myanmar via sea routes, and more than 1.3 million tourists arrived to Myanmar via border gates.

Tourists from the United States, Belgium, Canada, Indonesia, China, France, Japan, India, Germany, South Korea, Thailand, Singapore, Switzerland, Taiwan and Malaysia entered Myanmar through Yangon International Airport and Mandalay International Airport. Most of these tourists came from Thailand, according to the Immigration and National Registration Department under the Ministry of Immigration and Population.

The governments of Myanmar and Thailand allowed their citizens who hold valid passports and third party citizens to travel via the Techilek-Mae Sai, Myawady-Mae Sot, Htee Khee-Phu Nam Ron and Kawthoung-Ranong border gates as international gateways.

In the 2013-2014 fiscal year, over 900,000 tourists visited Myanmar via air ports. Over 200,000 tourists entered via sea routes, and more than 1 million tourists arrived via border gates, sources from the hotels and tourism ministry say.
