Nyaung Chaungtha Beach opens

The newly developed Nyaung Chaungtha (Yan Kintha) Beach, situated in Nyaungdon Township, Ayeyawady Region, opened yesterday offering Yangon Region residents a new place to relax.

“About 500,000 people already visit the beach every year, and now that it has been developed, it will attract even more visitors and bring in over Ks 100 million per year,” said Khin Maung Nyo, secretary of the Nyaung Chaungtha Beach Supervisory Committee.

“We set up a controlled area for swimming and hired lifeguards. We will close thebeach in May because the water level will rise. This year, we built a stage in the water to allow charity groups to entertain visitors and raise funds,” said Zaya, a contractor working on the Nyaung Chaungtha Beach development project.

Nyaung Chaungtha is located at the junction of the Ayeyawady and Pan Hlaing Rivers. Authorities regularly monitor the area in case of flooding.

People die at the beach every year in alcohol-related accidents.

“Visitors can swim between 6am and 6pm,” said Khin Maung Nyo.
