Ministry aims to boost Nay Pyi Taw tourism

The Ministry of Hotels and Tourism says it is planning to establish a “multi-development” tourism market in Nay Pyi Taw.

It plans to arrange tours of the Lower House of Parliament and launch a website for visitors.

The ministry has been working with Air KBZ to run Nay Pyi Taw-Mandalay flights from April. It is also planning sports events.

It hopes to make Nay Pyi Taw a Mice (meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions) destination.

The basic infrastructure, such as an international airport, world-class hotels and interesting destinations, are already in place, said Htay Aung, minister for hotels and tourism.

For human resources development, the ministry plans to conduct international-level hospitality and tourism courses in cooperation with the Myanmar Tourism Federation and Hilton Hotels.

Currently, preparations are being made to host International events, such as hospitality and tourism and international ecotourism conferences in Nay Pyi Taw.

The ministry mainly targets central Myanmar for tourism promotion. It is expected to receive tourist arrivals of up to five million this year.
