Foreign tourists flock to Tachileik border

More than 4,000 foreign tourists entered Myanmar through Tachileik, Shan State, since April 1, according to the Ministry of Hotels and Tourism.

A total of 1,447 tourists visited Tachileik, the Maha Myat Muni Pagoda, Shwedagon Pagoda, Arkha market and Chinese temples in May. An estimated 1,838 tourists from Thailand and China visited Monghpayak and Kengtung and 1,184 tourists, mostly from Thailand and China, visited Taunggyi, Inle, Began, Mandalay, Kyaiktiyo and Yangon so far this month.

The ministry said the numbers were from April 1 to May 25 through Tachileik.

Foreign visitors went to Zaytangyi Pagoda and Myatswarbayah Pagoda in Monghpayak, Kengtung's Maha Myat Muni Pagoda, Hokho Monastery, Wutinn Monastery and Zuntaw Pagoda.

More than one million visitors entered Myanmar until April this year, 25 per cent more than last year.
