A Buddhist noviciate ceremony, using an elephant, seven horses and cows, was held in the Mandalay Mya Nan San Kyaw Palace for the first time in a decade on April 19.

Many visitors attended the ceremony.

One said: “I have never seen an elephant, horses and cows in the palace. This is the first time. It is great to see such a ceremony.”

The organiser of the ceremony, father of the novice, Swe Win said: “It wasn’t very difficult to get the permission to hold the noviciate event in the palace. I had to pay a tax and apply to the heritage department.”
