More than 1.9 million foreign visitors have visited since April, a significant decline on last year, according to a national planning report.
The report said the tourism sector income was increasing year on year, bringing in US$905 million.
Yangon, Taunggyi, Mandalay and Bagan received the largest number of foreign tourists with Loikaw and Nay Pyi Taw receiving the fewest, according to the report.
Last year’s figure was more than 2.1 million foreign tourists.
During the period, 41 domestically owned hotels and 421 tour operators were given the green light to operate. And 630 guides were also given official tour guide licences, according to the report.
More than 7 million tourist arrivals are expected to generate more than US$9 billion between 2017 and 2021, according to the second five-year National Development Plan.
