Bagan lively with festivals amid monsoon

Bagan in Mandalay Region is filled with festivities in the middle of the monsoon season, reports say.

Visitors will have a chance to enjoy a vast number of carnivals from pagoda festivals to traditional dramas, marionette shows and sport events, such as a rowing ceremony at the Lawkananda Pagoda

A pagoda festival organiser at Bagan-Nyaung-U said: “We are festive peopleThe region is a birthplace of many outstanding performers. Many festivals are related with donation and charity works.

Some carnivals take only a few days while some last for a month.

Although August is the time of the famous Taungbyone spirit festival in the region, the government has banned it until the spread of H1N1 seasonal swine flu is under control.
