The final matches of 2017 SEA Games women's football tournament took place in Malaysia on Thursday and Myanmar had to settle for a bronze medal, while Vietnam became champions after beating Thailand on goals difference.

Vietnam beat hosts Malaysia 6-0 and Thailand defeated the Philippines 3-1. After the group matches, Vietnam and Thailand both had 10 points each but Vietnam had a goal difference of 11 to Thailand’s nine. The woeful Malaysia finished on 0 points with a negative goal difference of 18.

Myanmar's male under-22 footballers have secured a SEA Games semi-final place on August 26 after three consecutive wins against Singapore, Laos and Brunei in group A. Hosts Malaysia also qualify. 

After improving with each match, the team will be eyeing a tournament win. But they will still want to address the number of wasted balls and poor passes to improve their performances in the knock-out stages. Observers will be watching to see if the squad is rotated ahead of the semi final.

Striker Aung Thu scored both goals, and Myanmar is favored to advance into the semifinal stage.
