Thailand wins AFF Women’s Championship

Myanmar’s women’s team lost 3-2 to Thailand’s team in the final match of 2015 Asean Football Federation Women’s Championship held on May 10. The Australian U-20 women’s team placed third, beating host Vietnam 4-3.

Although the Myanmar team fielded the same squad that beat the Australian U-20 team in its semi-final match, they were not strong enough to beat Thailand. Thailand scored at minutes 36, 65 and 71, while Myanmar scored at minutes 55 and 74.

The Myanmar women’s team has not beaten Thailand since 2012. They have placed second for three years between 2011 and 2015 in this tournament. Myanmar’s team is the most successful team in the history of this tournament, having won twice, placed second three times and reached the final round five times. Myanmar’s championship victories were in 2004 and 2007.

This is Thailand’s second championship victory at the tournament. Thailand has qualified for the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
