Myanmar’s women reach football final

Myanmar’s women beat Australia’s under-20 team 1-0 to reach the final stage of the 2015 Asean Football Federation championship.

It is a third semi-final encounter for the teams, with Myanmar losing the previous two matches in 2008 and 2013.

Myanmar fielded their strongest squad and pressured Australia during the first half. Australia’s goalkeeper denied efforts from San San Maw, Khin Moe Wai and Phoo Pwint Khine and a close range attempt by Ye Ye Oo hit the bar. Myanmar got the winning goal after 50 minutes as Khin Moe Wai tapped in from a cross from the right.

Myanmar will play Thailand in the final match on May 10. The Thais beat hosts Vietnam 2-1 after extra time.
