Myanmar to face Philippines in debut of AFC U-19 qualifier for 2018

Myanmar U-19 national men’s football team will play against Philippines in the debut of Asian U-19 qualifier for 2018 in Cambodia on November 4.

All matches in the Group-G will be held in Cambodia. Myanmar will play along China PR, Philippines and Cambodia in the Group-G. The Group-G matches will be held from November 4 to 8

Of the 47 AFC member associations, a total of 43 teams will enter the competition’s qualifying round. All contending teams were divided into ten groups. To obtain first place in the group, Myanmar strongest contender will be China PR that is one of the powerhouse teams in Asian continent. 

The format of the AFC indicates that in each group, teams play each other once at a centralised venue. The ten group winners and the five best runners-up qualify for the final tournament. If the final tournament hosts win their group or are among the five best runners-up, the sixth best runner-up also qualifies for the final tournament. 

Myanmar will face Philippines in the first match, host Cambodia in the second and then China PR in the last group match. If Myanmar sees wins over Philippines and Cambodia and a draw with China PR, it would qualify for five best runners-up level.

Before entering this qualifier round, Myanmar U-19 will compete in Asean U-18 Championship for 2017. Asean U-18 Championship for 2017 will be hosted in Myanmar and it will be separately held in Thuwunna Youth Training Center and Aung San Stadium in Yangon from September 4 to 17. A total of 11 teams will enter the championship

AFC U-19 Championship for 2018 will be held during 2018, in which a total of 16 qualified teams will play in the final tournament. Myanmar U-19 team is formed with players age 18 and under.
