Myanmar advances into second stage of AFC U-16 Women’s competition

Myanmar U-16 Women team thrashed Philippines team 5-1 in the last match of Group E held in Nepal on September 23 and advanced onto the second stage of AFC U-16 Women’s Championship.

Both teams won their two matches in the group and the win launched Myanmar to top the group. Myanmar fielded its strong squad including its captain Myat Noe Khin, Swe Mar Aung, Win Win, Wai Phoo Eain and Pont Pont Pyae Maung against the Philippines team. Winger Zin Mar Htwe scored the first goal in 15th minutes assisted by the captain Myat Noe Khin. Myanmar team applied pressure on their opponents and scored second goal from an own goal in 17th minutes. Philippines tried to prevent giving away goals for the hope of obtaining best second place team but they couldn’t control the offense from Myanmar team. Striker Swe Mar Aung scored third goal before the interval. Zin Mar Htwe bagged another goal in 47th minutes and Myanmar scored its fifth goal in the dying minutes by Swe Mar Aung after Philippines pulled a goal back in 62nd minutes.

Myanmar topped the group with nine points from three matches and they advanced into second stage along with Australia, Bangladesh, China, Iran, Laos, Philippines and Vietnam. Thailand women team, who will be held the final stage of the 2019 AFC U-16 Women’s Championship, played the first stage of the competition and won the Group C. They will not play in second stage and Philippines are allowed to play in their place by the AFC as they won a third place among best second place teams.

The second stage of the competition will be held from February 23 to March 3 next year.
