About 10,000 athletes from 45 countries are expected to compete for 463 gold medals in 40 sports and 67 disciplines during the pan-Asian multisport event.

Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium, built in 1960, was completed in January. It can now accommodate up to 80,000 spectators, compared with 90,000 previously, due to the installation of single-seat system. The venue will be used for both football and other athletics events during this year's Asian Games.

The opening and closing ceremonies of 1962 Asian Games were also held at the Bung Karno Main Stadium.

Myanmar will compete in eight out of 40 sporting events at the 18th Asian Games to be held in Indonesia. The eight events Myanmar will be competing in are Football, Archery, Shooting, Sepak Takraw, Taekwondo, Volleyball, Wushu and Rowing. Myanmar is keeping its expectations to a certain limit with gold medals expected from Rowing, Sepak Takraw and Wushu while not keeping expectations low towards other games. However Myanmar will nevertheless send its best athletes to gain valuable international experience.

Myanmar athlete Zaw Lwin Tun will hold the Myanmar Flag. Myanmar U-23 football team is still tentative on attending the opening day event as they have to move on to their lodging on August 18. Besides, athletes who will be competition on August 19 will not be attending opening event and only some of the athletes and coaches will attend the opening event.

Myanmar had received two gold, one silver and one bronze medals at the last edition of this competition in Incheon, South Korea.
