Myanmar U-19 beats Thailand U-19 to reach final

Myanmar U-19 team beat Thailand U-19 1-0 at 2018 ASEAN U-19 Championship semi-final held at Indonesia on July 12 and progressed to finals.

It is the first time in 13 years for  Myanmar U-19 team to ascend to the finals. Myanmar team played better in the first half but goal opportunities weren’t seized. Thai team increased their tempo after half-time and Myanmar resorted to counter-attac. Myanmar goalkeeper Zin Nyi Nyi Aung saved some goals and some of the goals created by Thai players hit the post. Striker Win Naing Tun scored the only goal in 87 minutes from the counter attack. In other semi-final match, Malaysia beat host Indonesia in penalties after they drew 1-1 in normal time.

The final will be held on July 14. In the group match, Malaysia beat Myanmar 1-0. It is for the third time for Myanmar to meet Malaysia in final matches of the ASEAN U-19 Championship. Myanmar beat them 4-0 in 2003 and 1-0 in 2015 respectively.
