The national football team will play a friendly match against Thailand in Mandalay on October 5, the Myanmar Football Federation (MFF) has confirmed.
The game will be played at Mandalar Thiri Stadium before the Myanmar team plays against Kyrgyzstan in a home match that is part of the Asian Cup qualifying matches (Group 4).
Thailand agreed to the friendly match arranged by Myanmar.
Earlier, the MFF had planned to hold the friendly in Yangon, but the match was shifted to Mandalay so local soccer fans can enjoy an international football match.
Myanmar last played against Thailand in the semi-final of the 2016 Suzuki Cup. Myanmar lost both the home and away matches to Thailand and was unable to advance to the final of that event.
Myanmar has faced Thailand in the past three Suzuki Cups – in 2012, 2014 and 2016.
The last friendly match between the two sides was in 2011, in a match played at Buri Ram Stadium in Thailand. Myanmar lost to Thailand 0-1 in the first friendly, then tied 1-1 in the second friendly.
After playing against Thailand in the friendly on October 5, Myanmar will take on Cambodia on November 9.
In other games against Asean neighbours, Myanmar beat Indonesia 3-1 in the friendly and tied 1-1 with the Singapore national team. But Myanmar lost to Niigata club 0-1 in another friendly game.
Myanmar has secured three points with one win and one loss in Asian Cup qualifiers. The team will play against Kyrgyzstan in an away match on September 5 before the home match on October 10.
