SEA Games men’s soccer tournament to kick off on August 14

The Malaysian Olympic Committee is planning to hold a men’s soccer tournament beginning on August 14 after schedules for the 29th SEA Games was adjusted because the original dates conflicted with a religious festival.

Malaysia SEA Games were originally arranged from August 15 to 31. The closing date of the 29th SEA Games was changed one day from the original schedule as the religious festival falls on August 31. Accordingly, the schedules for 17 sporting games were altered.

Schedules were changed for diving, water polo, badminton, bowling, cricket, bicycle, horse riding, men’s and women’s soccer, Futsal men’s and women’s, hockey, ice skating, boxing, netball, sepak, takraw, taekwondo, squash, triathlon, weight lifting and waterski.

The schedule of men’s soccer tournament was changed from August 15-30 to August 14-29, the women’s soccer tournament was changed from August 21-29 to August 20-28, men’s Futsal changed from August 20-30 to August 18-29 and women’s Futsal from August 21-29 to August 20-28.

 The Malaysian Olympic Committee will host 38 sporting games at the 29th SEA Games. Myanmar’s sporting contingent will likely participate in 25 events. Myanmar will finalise the selection of players for the different sporting games at the end of this month.

The opening ceremony of the Games will be held on August 19 and the closing on August 30. There will be 405 sporting events and a total of 405 gold medals will be awarded.
