Aung San Suu Kyi, the chairperson of the National League for Democracy, met with students protesting against the proposed national education reform bill in Nay Pyi Taw on February 12, according to the NLD social media.
The protesting students confirmed their meeting with Suu Kyi which was also attended by MPs Su Su Lwin , Phyo Zeya Thaw and Thein Swe.
At the meeting, the students discussed the reasons for staging the protest against the proposed education law.
Besides, the students asked for assistance to help them in judicial affairs concerning the draft national education law.
“When meeting with the Aung San Suu Kyi, we explained the reasons for staging the protest and asked what she wanted to know. She said she will relay the students’ need when she attends parliament but give no guarantee. We were able to solve the misunderstanding between the students and Aung San Suu Kyi. We gained strength by meeting her,” said student Nan Lin of Dagon University.
The protesting students will join the protest march on February 14 in Yangon and later hold talks with government representatives after the government on February 11 agreed to the students’ 11-point demands in principle.
