Chinese name rose after Suu Kyi

In honour of State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi, a new species of rose has been named after her in China. 

She attended the naming ceremony of the Aung San Suu Kyi Rose at the Hai Geng Garden Hotel in Kunming, Yunnan Province, on May 17. 

At the ceremony a plant taxonomisexplained the creation of a new species of rose and presented a commemorative rose  and species documentation to Suu Kyi. 

The delegation attended the Chinese Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation in Beijing on May 14 and 15. 

They stopped in Kunming on their way home and met Chen Hao, secretary of the Communist Party in Yunnan Province, at Hai Geng Garden Hotel.

In December, Singapore named an orchid the Papilionanda Aung San Suu Kyi during her visit. The tradition began in 1956 in honour of visiting leaders.
