ANP to seek to public opinion on whether to attend 21st Century Panglong Conference

Meeting of Union Peace Discussion Joint Committee held in Nay Pyi Taw on May 12

Arakan National Party (ANP) is going to survey people’s opinion on whether the ANP should attend the second meeting of 21st Century Panglong Conference, according to Dr Aye Maung, chairperson of the ANP.

Dr Aye Maung said: “Although the ANP has decided whether to attend or not, we need to know the public opinion. The party’s decision has to match with the public opinion.”

He continued that Rakhine parties are not ready to attend the second meeting of the 21st Century Panglong Conference since national level political talks cannot be held in Rakhine State. In fact, the ANP and armed group Arakan Liberation Party prepared and had informed the government to hold national level talks in Rakhine State.

The 21st Century Panglong Conference is going to be held in Nay Pyi Taw on May 24.
