An official delegation, led by Magway Region’s Chief Minister Dr Aung Moe Nyo left for China on Jan 9 after receiving an invitation from the Chinese Communist Party.
20 members of the National League for Democracy (NLD) are also on the tour.
Nyan Win, a member of the NLD’s Central Executive Committee, said it’s not a part of the peace process, rather just a friendly study tour.
He said party officials, ranging from Central Executive Committee to district-level will join the trip.
“We need to be friendly to each other as we’re neighbors. If so, both sides will have shared benefits. If not, it’s useless for both. We need to be sociable,” he said.
NLD officials have visited China six to seven times previous, even before it became the ruling party in Myanmar, he pointed out.
