Union Level Joint Monitoring Committee (JMC-U) is holding its 18th meeting from September 12 to 14 at National Reconciliation and Peace Center (NRPC) in Yangon and Chairman Lt-Gen Ya Pyae, Vice Chairman (1) Maj-Gen Saw Isacc Po and Vice Chairman (2) Sai Myo Thant delivered their opening speeches at the first day of the meeting.

“The Peace process is very deep so all the stakeholders should avoid behaving in manners that might cause conflict. I want to suggest all bodies participating in the peace process to cooperate n order to achieve peace,” said the chairman.

“Whatever the conflicts occurred, local civilians are suffering from them in reality. So both sides need to keep control. Just simply denouncing each other will not and cannot solve the problem. It might even make it bigger, increasing hostility and hatred. We need to hold informal meetings frequently to point out the causes of the problems,” said the vice chairman 1.

“We are planning to organize local civilian monitors (LCM) after we had organized union level and state level of the JMC. All civic societies will be participated through the LCM and we hope it can facilitate the process of JMC,” said the vice chairman 2.

The draft form of the meaning of the JMC will be discussed and approved at the meeting. Moreover the meeting will discuss about study tours to Norway, Nepal and Philippines.
