CSSU held its first meeting in Yangon, 2016
National Reconciliation and Peace Center (NRPC) had banned the meeting being organized by the Committee for Shan State Unity (CSSU) to be held in Taunggyi Township, Shan State.

Negotiations will be carried out aiming to allow holding of CSSUs meeting, says Sai Boe Aung, General Secretary of Shan Nationalities Democratic Party (SNDP).

Sai Aik Paung, SNDPs chairman who is also the alternating chairman of CSSU, plans to hold a meeting in Taunggyi Township concerning current political situation in Shan State.

"Our Chairman told Maj-Gen Khin Zaw Oo that he wanted to hold a meeting of CSSU in Taunggyi. He[Khin Zaw Oo] replied that it was okay and that he would arrange the holding of meeting. So, we organized the meeting. Now, the office of NRPC is phoning our chairman they cant allow the meeting," said Sai Boe Aung.

The CSSU planned to hold their meeting in Taunggyi starting from September 3rd to 4th.

We have a plan to discuss about the affairs of Shan State and Shan nationals as a whole. But, our plan failed, said Sai Boe Aung.

The CSSU was formed in October 2013 involving with eight ethnic organizations. Its regular meetings were previously held once every six months, but now they are every four months. The alternate chairmanship rotates on an alphabetical basis. The first alternate chairman was Lt-Gen Ywet Sit of the Restoration Council of Shan State (RCSS).

The CSSU aims to seek the result of political, economic and social problems and the key ethnic organizations involved in the CSSU are the RCSS/Shan State Army, SNDP, Shan State Joint Action Committee (SSJAC) and Shan civic and social organizations.

The SSJAC was formed with the Shan State Progressive Party/Shan State Army which didnt signed the Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement, Shan Nationalities League for Democracy and Sein Kyawt Militia transferring from SSA which are official political parties.

When RCSSs chairman Lt-Gen Ywet Sit acted as an alternate chairman of CSSU, plans were underway to hold the CSSUs meeting in Thailand, in July last year. But, the Myanmar Military Attache to the Thailand denied holding of a meeting calling for Thai authorities. So, the meeting cant be held.
