The celebrations to commemorate 71st Anniversary Martyrs Day were held on a grand scale across the country on July 19.
The ceremony to commemorate 71st Anniversary Martyrs Day was held at Martyrs Mausoleum in Bahan Township, Yangon on July 19 which falls on Martyrs Day.
Present on the occasion were State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services, Vice-President Myint Swe, Lt-Gen Kyaw Swe, Union Minister for Home Affairs, T Khun Myat, Speaker of Lower House, Mahn Win Khaing Than, Speaker of Upper House, Tun Tun Oo, Union Chief Justice and family members of fallen martyrs.
The families of each martyr laid down wreaths at the mausoleum and saluted the fallen martyrs. The parliamentarians, the cabinet members including Yangon Chief Minister Phyo Min Thein, the political parties, foreign ambassadors to Myanmar and NGOs also laid down wreaths and saluted the fallen martyrs. At the mausoleum, a long blast was blown to mark and salute the martyrs at 10.37 am.
The Secretariat Office
A great number of people gathered at the Secretariat Office (Former Ministers’ Office) where Bogyoke Aung San and his colleagues were assassinated and paid tribute to them at the Martyrs Monument inside the office.
Hundreds of thousands of people came together at Martyrs Mausoleum to commemorate the 71st Anniversary Martyrs Day and then paid tribute to the fallen martyrs. The people had already arrived there before 7 am and they had to wait for the ceremony outside the mausoleum due to security reasons.
Bogyoke Aung San Museum and Bogyoke Aung San Bronze Statue
The people also made visits to Bogyoke Aung San Museum and Bogyoke Aung San Bronze Statue to pay tribute to Bogyoke Aung San. These places were packed with the people.
Ruling NLD party holds celebrations to mark the 71st Anniversary Martyrs Day
The ruling party of National League for Democracy (NLD) held the ceremony to commemorate the 71st Anniversary Martyrs Day at the Headquarters of the NLD in Yangon on July 19 morning.
First, the NLD party offered Waso robes and dawn meals to members of Sangha. At 10.37 am, NLD members, the people and the students made long blasts and paid tribute to Bogyoke Aung San and fallen martyrs.
Graves of U Razak and Yebaw Ko Htwe visited
The family members of U Razak and Yebaw Ko Htwe visited the martyrs’ graves and they wished for them according to their religious traditions. The people from Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism and Islam held a wishing ceremony.
Honking to commemorate fallen martyrs
The Fire Brigade near Sule Pogoda, Kyauktada Township, Yangon, blew a long blast to commemorate the 71st Anniversary Martyrs Day and the cars running on the road also paid tribute to the fallen martyrs by honking at 10.37 am on July 19.
Grand celebrations held across the country
The grand celebrations to commemorate 71st Anniversary Martyrs Day were held in South Okkalapa, Nay Pyi Taw, Hinthada, Mawlamyine, Bago, Myawady, Hpa-an, Meiktila, Sagaing, Myeik, Khamti, Taunggyi, Mandalay, NyaungU, Toungoo, Pakokku, Aunglan, Lashio and Dawei.
