The government will be able to take effective legal actions against corrupt civil servants after an anti-corruption law has been amended and control authorized personnel not to misuse authority, said State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi.
The peace talks between State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi and the residents from different fields took place in Mawlamyine, Mon State on June 14.
“The amendment to the anti-corruption law has been under discussion at the respective parliaments. If the people are bullied after violating the law, information should be sent to the authorities. Sometimes, the authorities may use the power in dishonest manner. If so, complaints should be lodged. We are paying special attention to corruption allegations. The anti-corruption law has been under discussion at the parliaments,” said State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi.
The amendment to the anti-corruption law has been almost finished at the respective parliaments. If completed, legal actions will be taken in an effective manner. The most important is to protect the people. The government will control the authorized personnel not to misuse authority. In this state, the people are required to take part in the anti-corruption move. With the assistance from the people, our country will make progress, State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi added.
With regard to the bribery and corruption, Aung San Suu Kyi said rules and regulations have been adopted for ensuring greater transparency in the projects. Tender system is of great importance. Most of the corruptions are related to the tender system, Aung San Suu Kyi said.
“There are problems in the tender system. The officials gave favouritism those they like. Corruptions are much related to the tenders. For that reason, the anti-corruption commission is paying special attention to corruption allegations. Tender rules should be scrutinized. We have already instructed out government members. They must inform us if the candidate company is familiar with them. I don’t mean the company is not allowed to participate in the tender. The companies have the right to participate in the tender competition. Transparency is of great importance in the tender process,” said Aung San Suu Kyi.
The anti-corruption commission needs to supervise the companies going the ways honestly or dishonestly. For them, the anti-corruption commission must also have strategies. Corruption can be in everywhere not only in the government sector but also in the private sector. There are those giving bribes and those accepting. The people are also responsible for that. Both the giver and the taker have responsibility for the bribes and corruptions. For that reason, to accomplish a task, we must work together, said Aung San Suu Kyi.
