A State-level meeting on national security and international relations as well as Rakhine issue was held at the Presidential Palace in Nay Pyi Taw on June 8.
The State-level meeting focused on the situations of signing with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), formation of the independent commission of enquiry , Shangri-la Dialogue and related issues, matters relating to security for Rakhine State and border.
Present on the meeting were President Win Myint, State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi, Vice-Presidents Myint Swe and Henry Van Thio , Lower House Speaker T Khun Myat, Upper House Speaker Mahn Win Khaing Than, Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Vice-Senior General Soe Win, Union Minister for Home Affairs Lt-Gen Kyaw Swe, Union Minister for Defence Lt-Gen Sein Win, Union Minister for Border Affairs Lt-Gen Ye Aung, Union Minister for State Counsellor Office Kyaw Tint Swe, Union Minister for International Cooperation Kyaw Tin, Union Attorney-General Tun Tun Oo and Deputy Minister for President Office Min Thu.
The National Defence and Security Council was formed with the President, two Vice-Presidents, the Speaker of the Lower House, the Speaker of the Upper House, the Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services, and the Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services, the Minister for Defence, the Minister for Foreign Affairs, the Minister for Home Affairs and the Minister for Border Affairs, according to the 2008 Constitution. All the members of NDSC attended the meeting.
The NDSC has never held its meeting in the NLD influenced government. However, the meeting was almost same as the NDSC like one. It was held on October 14 in 2016. The special meeting focused on the terrorist attacks on the outposts of Border Guard Force, the acts of the terrorists and their background situation, ongoing and future plans, the clashes broke out in Kachin State and northern Shan State, peace matters and plans for upgrading Myanmar Police Force and building capacity ready for terrorist attacks, according to the President Office.
Similarly, the meeting of clarifying Rakhine State affairs and prevalence of law and order was held at the Presidential Palace in Nay Pyi Taw on September 6 last year in the aftermath of the ARSA Bengali terrorist attacks in northern Rakhine State, attended by President Htin Kyaw, State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi, the two vice-presidents, the Speaker of Upper House, the Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services, the Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services, the Minister for Home Affairs, the Minister for Defence, the Minister for Border Affairs, the Minister for State Counsellor Office, the Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement, the National Security Adviser and the Deputy Minister of the President Office.
