Lieutenant Colonel Naw Thu, spokesperson of Kachin Independence Organization (KIO), criticized Tatmadaw (defence services) of enlarging its military force towards Laiza, the Headquarters of Kachin Independence Organization/Kachin Independence Army (KIO/KIA) in Kachin State.
The military columns have been found in moving and their numbers are more than the normal in Kachin State. At present no clashes has been found between Tatmadaw and the KIA in Kachin State. Tatmadaw’s military columns pulled out from the originally stationed places. But the military columns are still moving. Some military columns are enlarging their forces. The subordinate private presented a report to us, said Lieutenant Colonel Naw Thu.
“We hear Tatmadaw enlarging its forces around Laiza. As far as we know, we guess if they are changing their military force. They are withdrawing their forces from the original places. But they are extending their military strength around the KIA Headquarters and Mijaryan in Kachin State. We get this news from the subordinate private presented reports to us,” said Lieutenant Colonel Naw Thu.
Clashes were taking place in Hpakant, Tanai, Injaryan, Moegaung and Namti in Kachin State starting from the second week of April to third week of May. Some military columns have already moved back and the clashes have already stopped. The military columns seem to look bigger than the normal. We can see the military forces conducting travels, said Daung Kha, the spokesperson of the KIA technical advisory board.
Taking advantage of the situation with no clashes in Kachin State at present, peace talks should be held. These peace talks depend on the decisions made by the leaders of the KIO/KIA. For that reason, I don’t want to give any comment. However, if clashes renew around Laiza, the residents and IDPs will see more troubles, Lieutenant Colonel Naw Thu said.
