The Union Parliament has approved the appointment of Soe Win, member of the National League for Democracy economics committee, as Union Minister for Planning and Finance.
The approval came as there were no opposition to the appointment proposal announced by the President during a regular meeting of the Union Parliament held in Nay Pyi Taw on May 31.
The 80-year-old Soe Win was born in Mawlamyine, Mon State, in 1938.
He holds degrees in BA, BL and DMA and is working for Deloitte Touche Myanmar vigour Advisory Limited.
He served as deputy manager in Myanmar Economics Bank in 1961. He also used to work at Myanmar Foreign Trade Bank.
He severed as a Myanmar shareholder of the international consultant company Deloitte Touche. Expert in banking services, Soe Win has been working as a local and international consultant for many years.
Soe Win became a new minister as a replacement for Kyaw Win, who resigned on his own accord on May 25.
A complaint was lodged against Kyaw Win for alleged corruption, and he underwent investigations by the Anti-corruption Commission.
After sending its findings of the investigation to the President Office, the commission said on May 27 that findings would be announced at an appropriate time.
