A dinner to mark President’s Win Myint Taking Office held

A dinner to mark the newly elected president Win Myint’s taking office was held at the President’s Residence in Nay Pyi Taw on April 6.
State Counselor Aung San Suu Kyi, commander-in-chief, ministers, deputy ministers, ambassadors from foreign countries and those invited attended the party.
President Win Myint later delivered a speech.
He said, for the interest of the State and its people, everyone must work hard unitedly. 
He delivered his first speech after he made a pledge in front of the speakers of the Union Parliament on March 30.
He was born in the Ayeyawaddy Region in 1951. He studied geology in Yangon before becoming a lawyer in 1980s. He joined NLD when it was founded around pro-democracy protests in 1988. He had been jailed several times under military rule, including following the 1988 protests, In 19900, he won a seat in parliament for NLD in an election that was quickly nullified by the military. He was also elected in 2012 and 2015.
He has been a member of the NLD central committee since 2010.
