A press conference is in progress at Myanmar Institute of Strategic and International Studies in Yangon on February 26.
Eight members of the Union Enterprise for Humanitarian Assistance, Resettlement and Development in Rakhine (UEHRD) including chief coordinator Dr Aung Tun Thet were denied access to attendance at The  Berlin Conference on Myanmar Genocide to be held in Berlin, Germany on February 28.
Regarding the denial of the attendance at the conference, a press conference was held at Myanmar Institute of Strategic and International Studies in Yangon on February 26.
Present at the press conference were chief coordinator Dr Aung Tun Thet of the UEHRD, Lower House MP Pyone Kathy Naing, Upper House MP J Yaw Gu, Dr Tun Thura Thet, those who were attending the conference, diplomats and journalists.
The eight members of UEHRD informed the organizers of the conference of attending Berlin Conference on Myanmar Genocide and the list of representatives was already sent. Permissions were also given to Myanmar representatives. But unluckily, the organizers of the conference banned Myanmar representatives from attending the conference on the day when the conference started by reason of no seats at the conference.
We were banned from attending the conference. The title of the event is ‘Myanmar Genocide’. This event will be intentionally held to design a complex problem happened in Rakhine State for the international community to witness the worst situation, Dr Aung Tun Thet said.
“On behalf of the voices of our Myanmar citizens, we wanted to speak out on our fair opinions on Rakhine issue, not one-sided views. But when we consider the title of the conference, the agenda, the speakers and the leaders, we know they will stand which side. We wanted to talk about true Rakhine situations to the world community representing Myanmar citizens. If we stated strong and true evidences as much as we could, we could prevent wrong decisions capable of hurting sovereignty of the State from being made. This conference intended to spotlight one-sided views regardless of fairness. Our purpose is just to attend the conference and observe it,” Dr Aung Tun Thet said.
One-side views on violence and blaming for them deviated from the true situations and these are obstacles to Myanmar government’s endeavours, Dr Aye Tun Thet said.
Berlin Conference is an event held every year. It discusses topics of extraordinary things happening in the world to enable the people in Europe to know them. This year’s title is Berlin Conference on Myanmar Genocide.
