A bridge to connect Rakhine State and Ayeyawady Region is under construction.

The Kyaukchun bridge is 200 feet (60 metres) long and will link Ayeyawady’s Paukhlagyine village and Rakhine’s Kyaukchun village.

State MP Po San from Kyaukpyu Township, Rakhine, said: “The bridge is just 10 miles (16 kilometres) away from Gwa Township in Rakhine and 50 miles (80 km) away from Pathein in Ayeyawady.”

The road leading to the bridge in Gwa was ready but the road in Pathein was not finished yet, he added.

“There will be hotel projects in Gwa soon and the developers can travel more conveniently from Ayeyawady when the bridge is finished.”

The villages along the road connecting to the bridge now have access to electricity via Ayeyawady.
