State Counselor attends Brunei King’s Golden Jubilee of accession to the throne

The State Counselor Aung San Suu Kyi attended a celebration to mark the Golden Jubilee of accession to the throne of Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah.

The State Counselor was accompanied by Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs Kyaw Tin and other officials.  She was welcomed at the Brunei airport by attorney general of Brunei, commander-in-chief and Myanmar ambassador Cho Tun Aung and embassy officials.

Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah, 71, is the world’s second longest reigning monarch. He succeeded as sultan in October 4th, 1967.

Myanmar and Brunei established diplomatic ties in 1993 and both countries are members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

Aung San Suu Kyi met Brunei King in April 2017 while attending 30th ASEAN Summit  in the Philippines international Convention Center. They have agreed to promote bilateral relations, agriculture, and energy sector according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
