Vice President Henry Van Thio, also the patron of Digital Economy Development Committee, said that Myanmar must become one of Asean’s digital hubs with a robust 21st-century economy.
He told the committee’s meeting on July 14 at the Ministry of Planning and Finance in Nay Pyi Taw that Myanmar must now begin laying the foundations to achieve a thriving digital economy, building digital infrastructure, increasing the technological capacity of the workforce and to create policies that would enable startups and other independent companies to work in a competitive, lucrative environment.
He said it would require cooperation with international experts to build a digital economy but the rewards would greatly benefit not only the technology industry but others as well.
He highlighted problems to tackle, such as the gaping “digital divide” between urban and rural areas.
