Retired Thai minister inspects Rakhine

Thailand’s ex-Deputy Chief Minister and Foreign Miniser Professor Dr Surakiart Sathirathai inspected the preparations for the National Verification project in Taungpyo Letwal.

He and Myanmar’s Union Ministers took to the field in the afternoon of January  24 to check on the main building for the project as well as the friendship bridge to Bangladesh and other buildings.

The delegation later moved on to other sites such as Hla Phoe Khaung where temporary housing for Bengalis are being built.

Dr Surakiart Sathirathai is also the leader for the team responsible for providing analysis and recommendation in Myanmar in the execution of plans laid out regarding Rakhine State affairs, particularly on the issue of re-accepting Bengalis that fled the country.

They then had a discussion regarding the process and development of the National Verification project.

According to reports, there has been zero Bengalis returning back into Rakhine State.
