Chinese tourists were the second highest number of visitors to Myanmar last year.
About 500,000 Chinese tourists visited Myanmar in 2016, a drop from the more than 800,000 who visited in 2015.
Chinese tourists mainly visited Myanmar from Muse, Laukai, Chin Shwe Haw, Lweji, Kanpiketi and Mongla. Most of them used the Muse border gate.
Ohn Maung, Minister for Hotels and Tourism said: “All people in the tourism sector need to keep the momentum up on the development of the tourism industry and share the benefits from the industry with all citizens.
“Myanmar is planning to cooperate with Yunnan Province Tourism Development Committee to establish Lancang-Mekong River Tourism Cities, tourism information center and South Asia and East Asia internet based tourism industry.”
The intentions of the forum is to boost the tourism sector between Myanmar and China, to cooperate in cross-border tourism in border towns, to hold traditional festivals and to make more investments in the hotel and tourism industry, said the minister.
In the forum, meetings of tourism cooperation between Myanmar and China and tourism development in towns along the Lancang-Mekong river will be held.
Myanmar is a member of Greater Mekong Sub-region along with Cambodia, Laos, Thailand and China.
