A riot broke out in the Sittwe prison in Rakhine State on the morning of October 6.

Acting on the tip-off about narcotic drugs, prison staff searched two inmates. But the inmates refused to get inspected, and other inmates shouted loudly.

The team led by the chief of Rakhin State Police is making an investigation into the case.

Students from some schools near the jail were allowed to go home. The authority has not released detail information about the case.

A local from the prison said: “I heard loud shouting from the prison like chanting. I don’t know what happened there. I also heard gunfire.”

The police placed barricades near the prison. About 20 police cars were ready. According to the unconfirmed source, a prison staff got minor injuries.
