Anti-corruption sub-commission will be formed in regions and states: Myanmar President

Plan is under way to form anti-corruption sub-commission in regions and states in order to dig deep into corruption cases which are not within the reach of the Anti-Corruption Commission, Myanmar President Win Myint said at a meeting with the Magway Region government, MPs and departmental officials, at Magway City Hall on the morning of October 6.

“Our government is placing special emphasis on the fight against corruption. In the fight against the corruption, our government takes legal actions against anybody involved in the cases,” he added.

“All people and civil servants need to change their fixed ideas in order to help smooth reform processes. It must supervise departments which have no desire to make reforms. It needs to repair the judicial system, fight the corruption and promote and protect human rights. More efforts should be made for the eradication of narcotic drugs,” he said.

At the meeting, nine direct complaint letters sent to the president were received.

Aye Aye Thein, a local who sent the complaint letter from Magway Township said: “The government confiscated the plantation where 200 Thanutkhar plants and 40 perennial crops for the construction of fuel block plant in 1995. I sent ten complaint letters between 2012 and 2017. But I received no reply. I want my land before I die. I face with a burden of debt. I expect I will regain my confiscated land.”

Journalists were not allowed to cover the news when the President met the Magway Region Chief Minister, speaker of region parliament and the the region chief justice separately.
