The Union government has approved a plan to take interim census for five per cent of the country’s total area in 2019, said Thein Swe, Union Minister for Labour, Immigration and Population.
“Like other countries, the ministry plans to take census every five year. Plans are under way to take interim census in mid-2019. The ministry is making coordinations with relevant organizations and staff,” Union Minister Thein Swe told the media after the ceremony to present certificates at the central training centre of the Ministry of Construction in Yangon on September 8.
“Myanmar took the nationwide census in 2014. The ministry has got the approval from the Union government to take interim census. The ministry will take the interim census only for five-per-cent area,” he added.
The ministry failed to reveal the exact coverage area for the interim census-taking. Detail research reports are released on the 2014 nationwide census.
