Cambodia sets ageing policy for 2017-2030

PHNOM PENH (Rasmei Kampuchea Daily/ ANN) - The National Ageing Policy 2017-2030 was launched in order to solve the issues of the elderly population arising from demographic changes. 

This was launched at the Peace Palace under the presidency of Prime Minister Hun Sen.

Minister of Social Affairs, Veterans and Youth Rehabilitation Vong Soth said Cambodia has over 1.2 million people aged 60 up – about 7 percent of 15 million population.

By 2030, Cambodian population expected to increase to 18 million, and ageing people will be at around 2 million people or 11 percent of total population, he underlined.

This policy was approved by the cabinet ministers in August last year. It has identified nine priorities related to the elderly people, including financial security, health and well-being, lifestyle, favourable environment, active ageing and associations of elderly people, inter-generation relations, abuse, indifference and violence, emergency situation, and ageing readiness.
