A community-based tourism project will be implemented on Gaw Yin Gyi Island in Ngayokekaung in Ngaputaw Township in Irrawaddy Region, according to Irrawaddy Region Hotels and Tourism Department.
Locals have submitted a proposal for project implementation to the Department of Hotels and Tourism. They drafted the proposal in cooperation with Another Development.
Zaw Lin Tun, the deputy director of the Department of Hotels and Tourism said the project research paper would be sent to the Union Ministry after the regional government approves it.
The ministry is expected to set up a training program to help develop CBT in the region, he said. Road access and access to power would be improved after official designation as a CBT project.
“There will be clinics, too,” Zaw Lin Tun added.
“We will implement these facilities within one year after getting the green light.”
Environmental impact is one issue to be discussed.
Destination areas will be announced on the official website of the Ministry of Hotels and Tourism.
“The major difficulty is transportation,” said Win Soe of the West Beach CBT development central committee. “There is one Ngayokekaung police outpost for security. Foreigners have to sleep at night near the police outpost, which is located about 100 miles from the beach. It is impossible to build police outposts within 100 miles.
“It will be okay if the government removes that restriction. We want visitors to see locals doing their regular work,” said Win Soe.
