The Yaykyaw Thadingyut lighting festival – the most famous of its kind in Yangon – will be held on a grand scale, as always, in Pazundaung Township from October 2 to 6.

"As before, Yaykyaw will hold the Thadingyut Lighting Festival from October 2 to 6. We will tighten security during the festival period. Shops will be allowed to stay open, but they have to do so systematically. Details will be announced,” said an official responsible for organising the event.

The Yaykyaw Lighting Festival has been held annually without fail and has been received as an enjoyable event for the public. It includes food stalls and shops selling traditional handicrafts, consumer goods and other things. Moreover, the festival features entertainment programmes and funfairs. Music performances and fashion shows are also held with famous vocalists and fashion models. Another significant aspect at the Yaykyaw festival is the exhibition of Myanmar traditional lamps depicting works of cartoonists.

The Thadingyut Lighting Festival is held for three days, including the full moon day of the Myanmar Lunar month that usually falls in October. As a custom, it is held at the end of the Buddhist lent and is the second-most popular festival in Myanmar after the Thignyan New Year Festival.
