Ministry funds over Ks 58 billion for monastic education schools

Ministry of Education has provided a fund of Ks 58,129.788 million for monastic education schools in 2018-2019 fiscal year, said Union Minister for Education Dr. Myo Thein Gyi.

The Union Minister explained the facts about the current government’s undertakings during the three-year tenure.

The ministry allocates school development funds to basic education schools as well as to monastic education schools.

For the development of monastic education schools, the ministry provided a fund of Ks 56,753.192 million in 2016-2017 FY and Ks 58129.788 million in 2018-2019 FY.

There are 1557 monastic education schools and over 708,000 students.

According to the school development support program being implemented in cooperation with the World Bank, the ministry is implementing four tasks.

Ko Lay Win, Director-General of Basic Education Department said: “The first out of four tasks is the school development fund. In 2018-2019 FY, the ministry provided a fund of over Ks 58.129 billion and paid them a stipend of Ks 16.609 billion. In 2017-2018 FY, the ministry increased the funds for the monastic education schools.  

Since 2014, the ministry has provided school development funds for basic education schools and monastic education schools, with the assistance of the WB and other development partners.
