ASEAN Special Envoy to make second visit to Myanmar from June 29 to July 3

As the Special Envoy of the ASEAN chair on Myanmar, Prak Sokhun, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Kingdom of Cambodia, will lead a delegation to the second working visit to Myanmar from June 29 to July 3, 2020, Cambodia reported.

During the visit, he will meet Chairman of the State Administration Council (SAC) Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing and Union Minister for Foreign Affairs U Wunna Maung Lwin.

The SAC information team has told some local media that on the agenda during the visit are the progress of the implementation of the Five-Point Consensus, ongoing peace talks and humanitarian assistance.

The information team has also said the ASEAN Special Envoy will not be allowed to meet those facing court trial during his visit. 

Prak Sokhun and Secretary-General of ASEAN Dato Lim Jock Hoi made a three-day visit to Myanmar on March 21, and met with the SAC chairman.

During the meeting, they discussed the pathways of Myanmar entering the multiparty democratic system in 2010, assumption of State responsibilities by the SAC under the 2008 Constitution, which was enacted by a referendum, due to the voting fraud in the 2020 multiparty general election, protests evolved into violence sparked by political dissents, murder cases without any reasons, mine attacks on government buildings and schools, security measures of the SAC to ensure the lives and prosperity of the people, implementation of the Five-Point Consensus of ASEAN, distribution of humanitarian assistance for Myanmar people, ways to promote ASEAN cooperation and further outcomes to be received through the meeting of the first official mission.
